In fashion drawing the focus in on the clothes. which we wish to present in as beautiful and appealing a way as possible. The figure is always present under the clothes- it is the underlying foundation that gives clothes their shape, and must itself be beautiful and striking to display the clothes to best effect. The figure that is used in fashion drawing is one that is a little different from the natural figure: it is an idealized figure, with longer legs, thinner hips and torso and a slightly smaller head. Using this long, thinner figure makes the clothes appear larger and more dramatic.
Using the length of the head as a measurement of one unit the fashion figure is nine heads.
